Subject: FAQ about Austrian folk dancing
X-Version: 2000-01-09
You can download this FAQ via
FAQ about Austrian folk dancing http://www.fff.at/fff/dance/faq/
You could - for example - start at
Austrian Folk Dancing http://www.fff.at/fff/dance/
You'll get a list of keywords, when you click on
"INDEX" http://www.fff.at/fff/dance/keywords/
This index will help you to find the information you are looking for.
Eh, what are official pages about Austrian FOLK Dancing?
It's a private initiative by a ``practising'' folk dancer. These pages should be seen as a help in finding further information and I am very happy if anyone could contribute additional information. Any hints are welcomed!
Ok it's not really a frequently asked question, however, please see the
Unanswered questions http://www.fff.at/dance/faq/unanswered/ if you want to help ... 8-0
Of course. In fact that's what these pages are for.
Please make a suggestion on what page (or pages) you'd like to be listed. At least I need the URL. A title, a contact and a description would be fine.
Sometimes my pages are reorganized so I cannot guarantee that your link will not be moved to another place.
But, anyway, please make a suggestion. You'll find a pages's URL in the upper right corner. Please refer to this URL.
There are also many institutions and people listed, who might be able to help you:
Institutions http://www.fff.at/fff/dance/german/adressen.html People http://www.fff.at/fff/dance/german/people.html
And not to forget the other people who are maintaining webpages.
The number of organisations which are offering information via the Internet is growing. I've listed what I know.
However, some of them really don't have Internet access.
Please see
Information about several regions http://www.fff.at/fff/dance/regions/
And/or check my
Calendar of events http://www.fff.at/cgi-bin/event-01.pl
And then there is the question, if you really mean ``traditional'' music or the commercial remakes (``volkstümliche Musik'').
Not an answer but some hints you'll find at
The dances from "Sound of Music" http://www.fff.at/fff/dance/dances/som/
There is also a page about the Sound of Music
The Sound of Music http://www.fff.at/fff/dance/misc/trapp.html
and the ``Landler'' in general
The Landler http://www.fff.at/fff/dance/dances/landler/
However, I think I cannot help you with information about the steps. Maybe one of the several organisations which I've listed can give you some hints.
It is not easy to get Austrian folk dancing music from abroad. Maybe my page
Folk Dancing Music http://www.fff.at/fff/dance/music/
can give you some hints. There is even a link to Austrian folk dancing music in MIDI-format.
Please see
Ordering working material http://www.fff.at/fff/dance/material/
But it's really not so easy, since some of these organisations are ``just'' a gang of volunteers who might be professional in what they are doing but not very professional in selling it.
Which is not always bad ;-)
Please see
Landlers on video http://www.fff.at/fff/dance/material/video/landler/
However, it's always better to learn this dance from someone, who has learnt it from someone, who has learnt it from someone, who ...
Please see
Descriptions of Landlers http://www.fff.at/fff/dance/dances/landler/descr/
But you'll find out that most descriptions are written in German. Which is less bad than if they were written in Austrian ...
Please see
Tracht / Traditional Costumes http://www.fff.at/fff/dance/clothing/
Again there is the question what you mean by ``traditional''. There is a wide range, what people call ``traditional clothing''.

If you are looking for Schuhplattlers, Jodellers, people who want to perform dances, people who want to see your performances, please see my index.
However, if you have special needs, I can add your request to the appropriate page (or create an appropriate page). And we can hope that someone of the visitors will be the person you are looking for.
And if my pages helped you to find the people you were looking for: Please tell us how you did it and I'll add this information.
If you have read this FAQ and had a look on my index and think that your question should be covered by this collection, please tell me.
However, please tell me on what of my pages you were looking for this particular information or at least what words you have not found in my index.
Please make a suggestion on what page I should offer the missing information.
At least I can put it on the ``requests-page''
Unanswered and not completely answered questions http://www.fff.at/fff/dance/faq/unanswered/
BTW, have you read that page?
:-)
Please don't.
If you want to tell us about your events, please use my
Calendar of events http://www.fff.at/cgi-bin/event-01.pl
where you can add your event without my assistance.
However, if you want to add information to the collection (such as a link to your homepage) please make a suggestion on what page I sould add your link.
Please don't.
If you send me information, please give me at least the feeling that you have had a look on my pages.
Please subscribe to this mailinglist:
