The Austrian climate

The climate of Vienna

Vienna is situated in the East of Austria, which means that is situated away from the Alps. Generally this region is a bit warmer than the rest of Austria and during the winter you have mostly temperatures over the freezing temperature of water (= 0 degrees Celsius).

In the last years the climate was sometimes rather crazy: Warm temperatures in winter and snow in late spring.

In summer it can get rather hot and it is possible to have palms when you put them away over the winter. However, nearly nobody has palms. But it is possible to have kiwi-plants on the south side of a house.

The most time we are having enough rain for the plants and it is all green here even in the hottest summer time.

Just now [July 1997] some regions in Austria and Germany have a flood desaster. This is rather seldom here, however this one is the biggest desaster since 50 or 100 years. So it is a real desaster ...
